Edna Hernández González
Architect-urban planner and lecturer at the Institute of Geoarchitecture, UBO, Edna Hernández González is currently assistant director of Laboratoire Géoarchitecture, UBO.
Edna is currently leading three research projects:
- Coordination of "Noz Breizh" (scientific consortium),
- "Noz Num: Walking in the city at night" (funded by MSBH),
- "Smart Noz" (funded by région Bretagne).
Her work focuses on nocturnal urban planning, in particular the link between urban lighting, human activities at night and their impact on the environment. She considers the gendered practice of urban space and the experience of night-time walking in French and Mexican cities. Since 2012, she has been an active member of the Mobilité urbaine piétonne cross-disciplinary research group (Labex Futurs urbains, GT MU, Université Gustave Eiffel). Since 2016, she has been a delegate of the Institut des Amériques in Brest (IDA-Brest). She is a founding member of the Estudios sobre la noche research network in 2020.
Among her recent publications, she collaborated with Alejandro Mercado-Celis on a book entitled Estudios de la noche urbana y la economía nocturna en las ciudades de México, Estados Unidos y Canada, in 2021. In addition, she has collaborated with Florian Guérin and Alain Montandon on the book Cohabiter les nuits urbaines. Des significations de l'ombre aux régulations de l'investissement ordinaire des nuits, in 2018.
- 2022- 2025: Scientific director of Noz Breizh academic chair, UBO
- 2022- 2024: Scientific director of the Smart Noz project, financed by région Bretagne
- 2021- 2023: Scientific director of the Noz Num project, funded by MSHB.
- 2021-2022: Scientific director of the Blue Nigths project, SEA EU funding.
- Since 2019: Founding member of Estudios de la noche in partnership with Mc Gill University and CISAN (UNAM).
- Since 2016: Scientific director of the Groupement d'intérêt scientifique (GIS), Institut des Amériques, Brest (IdA-Brest), Réseau d'études des Amériques (IdA).
- Since 2015: Senior lecturer in urban planning (UBO)
- 2015- 2020: Participation and active member of research-action project "La ville côté femmes" in Gennevilliers, led by the non-profit association "Les Urbaines". Scientific leaders: Corinne Luxembourg, Université d'Artois, Emmanuelle Faure, Université de Nanterre and Edna Hernàndez-Gonzàlez.
- Since 2012: Active member of the Groupement de recherche pluridisciplinaire "Mobilités piétonnes urbaines" - Labex Futurs Urbains. Scientific directors: Jérôme Monnet, UPEM and Jean-Paul Hubert, IFSTTAR.
- 2005-2010: PhD student in urban and regional planning, Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, Ecole doctorale "Ville, Transports, Territoires", Lab'Urba, under the supervision of Jérôme Monnet, Professor of Urban Planning (Ecole d'Urbanisme de Paris).
